Platinum. A rare, malleable, highly unreactive and precious element used as a symbol to mark a 70th anniversary. As Garan Lucow Miller. P.C. begins its remarkable 71st year providing quality legal services, we reflect on our platinum anniversary, an extremely rare accomplishment in the legal profession.
Three men, fresh from World War II, took advantage of the GI Bill to go to law school and ended up sitting next to each other in class. Daniel L. Garan, Milton Lucow and Albert A. Miller then founded Garan Lucow Miller, P.C. in 1948. GLM initially provided its legal services to insurers, working out of one office in downtown Detroit. As the demand for quality work provided by trustworthy and well-respected attorneys grew, GLM expanded into nine offices throughout the state of Michigan. In recent years, GLM added an office in Indiana expanding our footprint in the Great Lakes region, and continues to serve clients nationally.
Like platinum, GLM is a rare commodity because of its strength, steadiness, adaptability and durability which have allowed GLM to withstand the tests of time. GLM’s attorneys provide expertise in practice areas including No-Fault and Automobile Negligence, Admiralty Law, Business Transactions, Commercial Litigation, Criminal Law, Family Law, Municipal Law, Probate, Premises Liability, Wills and Estates, Real Estate Transactions and Zoning, to name a few. Our attorneys continue to outpace the field with our expertise in No-Fault insurance law, and numerous other areas, a fact established by landmark appellate decisions in state and federal courts such as AOPP v ACIA, 472 Mich 91 (2005); Jones v Entertel, Inc, 467 Mich 266 (2002); Robinson v City of Detroit, 462 Mich 439 (2000); Riddle v McLouth Steel Products Corp, 440 Mich 85 (1992); Lindsey v Detroit Entertainment, 484 F.3d 824 (6th Cir. 2007); Jones v Reynolds, 438 F.3d 685 (6th Cir. 2006); Calef v West, 252 Mich App 443 (2002); Griffith v State Farm, 472 Mich 521 (2005); Kreiner v Fischer, 471 Mich 109 (2004); Proudfoot v State Farm, 469 Mich 476 (2003); McPherson v McPherson, 493 Mich 294 (2013; Rory v Continental Ins Co., 473 Mich 457 (2005); Price v High Pointe Oil Co, 493 Mich 238 (2013); Moore v Secura Ins, 482 Mich 507 (2008); Buck v Thomas M. Cooley Law School, 272 Mich App 93 (2006); Janson v Sajewski Funeral Home, 486 Mich 934 (2010); Candler v Farm Bureau, 321 Mich App 772 (2017); and Bahri v IDS Property Casualty Ins Co, 308 Mich App 420 (2014).
GLM prides itself in sharing our expertise with those we serve through GLM’s No-Fault Manual, our Law Fax and Gov Law publications, and our yearly seminars throughout Michigan (in Troy, Grand Rapids, Lansing, Ann Arbor) and the Great Lakes region.
As we begin our 71st year, we look forward to continuing the tradition of quality legal representation with a personalized touch. We commit to diversity and inclusion and will continue to prioritize our pro bono legal work, donations to legal aid agencies, and collaboration with charities and nonprofit organizations. We value the relationships we have built with our clients, and the trust we have earned, and we will continue to work hard to maintain those relationships while developing new ones in the years to come.
Thank you for helping GLM reach its platinum status. We look forward to the next 70 years.
