Garan Lucow Miller P.C., on behalf of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee, is pleased to offer its Second Annual Diversity & Inclusion Scholarship Award to another deserving law student this year. The Scholarship provided a $1,500 stipend to the winner, as well as $1,000 and $500 awards for the second and third place winners, respectively. This scholarship was available to 3rd year law students planning to sit for the Michigan or Indiana Bar Examination in July 2021. Lisa Screen developed the concept and worked closely with the D&I Committee to establish the writing prompt, which was based on the following subject:
“How do you plan to encourage and advance the principles of diversity and inclusion in the legal community, and what do you see as your role/responsibility to do so, as you enter the legal field and the actual practice of law?”
Allyson M. Putt of Wayne State University Law School was selected as the first place winner.
Chijioke “CJ” Uwandu of Michigan State University College of Law was selected as the second place winner.
Anthoney Smith of Michigan State University College of Law was selected as the third place winner.
All three winners will be presented with their awards at a date and time conducive with their bar prep schedule. On behalf of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee, we look forward to presenting all three scholarship recipients with their awards and the continuation of this scholarship for years to come.
